HuipainterandresidentofHami,Xinjiang,LiuYizhong’sfigurepaintingsaboundwithanexpressiveblendofboldandgentlelinesandacollageofcolors,whichcapturethespiritofdiversityandtoleranceunitinghisregion’sethnicmix.Liuendowshissubjects,thepeopleofWesternChina,withasenseofancestry,Conveyingasenseofpovertyanddesperationalongwithhopeandinspiration,heleavesuswithalastingimpressionoftheWesternspirit.Althoughthesurroundinglandscapeisnotdepicted,allusionstotheenvironmentareinherentandreflectthehistoryofstrugglesexperiencedbyitsinhabitants.
