Thebarotropicandbaroclinicdisturbancesaxisymmetrizedbythebarotropicbasicvortexareexaminedinanidealizedmodelingframeworkconsistingoftwolayers.UsingaWentzel-Kramers-Brillouinapproach,theradialpropagationofabaroclinicdisturbanceisshowntobeslowerthanabarotropicdisturbance,resultinginaslowerlinearaxisymmetrizationforbaroclinicdisturbances.Theslower-propagatingbaroclinicwavesalsocausemorebaroclinicasymmetrickineticenergytobetransferreddirectlytothebarotropicsymmetricvortexthanfrombarotropicdisturbances,resultinginafasteraxisymmetrizationprocessinthenonlinearbaroclinicwavecasethaninthenonlinearbarotropicwavecase.
