ThisworkprovidesacomprehensivetheoreticalanalysisofMHDunsteadyfreeconvectionviscoelasticfluidflowthroughaporousmedium.Themediumistreatedasincompressibleandopticallytransparent.Theflowofthefluidisinitiatedbyshearingactionofthemovingwallwithtimedependentsuction.Radiativeheatflowisconsideredintemperatureequation.Thecouplednonlinearproblemhasbeensolvedasymptotically.Approximatesolutionshavebeenobtainedforthemeanvelocity,meantemperatureusingmultiparameterperturbationtechnique.Theoriginalityofthepresentstudyistoinvestigatetheeffectofviscoelasticpropertyofthefluid(WaltersB?model)ontheflowandheattransferphenomenawhentheflowispermeatedthroughaporousmediumwithuniformporousmatrixsubjecttotransversemagneticfieldandtimedependentfluctuativesuctionattheboundarysurface.Thecaseofviscousflowhasbeendiscussedasaparticularcaseoncomparisonwiththeresultreportedearlieranditisingoodagreement.Flowreversalisindicatedincaseofviscoelasticfluidwithhighheatcapacityinthepresenceofmagneticfield.Thehighercoolingoftheplateincaseofviscoelasticflowalsocausesaflowreversal.
