摘要
Culturalheritagedoesnothavedirecteconomicbenefits.However,ifproperlymanageditcanstimulatesocialcohesions,improvingtheenvironmentandhavebeneficialeconomicspinoffsforthelocalcommunities.Thispaperdiscussestheroleofcommunitiesintheformulationofthepoliciesconcerningtheirlocalenvironment.Itarguesthatcommunityengagementbypolicymakersisimportantingivinglegitimacyandownershipofthepolicies.Furthermore,thispaperdiscussesthepotentialofculturalheritageindiversifyingtheeconomyinBotswana.Thispaperrecommendsforthere-assessmentoftherelationshipbetweenthestateandlocalcommunitieswhichiscriticalinresuscitatingtheseeminglyailingcommunitybusinessorganizations.Inconclusion,itarguesforthesustainablemanagementofculturalheritageasasocialandeconomicresourceinthenext50yearsofBotswana’sindependence.
