摘要 Inapreviousgreenhouseexperiment,weshowedthattherewasaninteractionbetweencuandZn,whichaffectedgrowthandmetaluptakebyyoungbarleyplantsgrownonsoiltowhichCd,Cu,Pb,andZnhadbeenadded.Wesuggestedthattheunderlyingmechanismwasthecontroloftheamountofplant-availableZnbycompetitiveadsorptionbetweenCuandZn,Inordertotestthishypothesis,theadsorptionofZnalone,andinthepresenceofaddedCd,CuandPb,hasbeenmeasuredusingthesamesoil.Followingadsorption,theextractabilityoftheZninCaCl2solutionwasmeasured.TheadsorptionisothermsshowedthatoftheaddedmetalsonlyCuhadalargeeffectonZnadsorption.TheeffectofCuwastoreduceZnadsoptionandtoincreasetheamountofCaCl2-extractable(i.e.plant-available)Zn,inagreementwiththeconclusionsfromthegreenhouseexperiment.ThemagnitudeoftheeffectofCuonplant-avalilableZnwassimilarinbothexperiments.
