All‐metallic wide‐angle metasurfaces for multifunctional polarization manipulation

摘要 Opticalcamouflageisamagicalcapabilityofanimalsasfirstnoticedin1794byErasmusDarwininZoonomia,butcurrentbiomimeticcamouflagestrategiescannotbereadilyappliedincomplexenvironmentsinvolvingmultispectralandinparticularmulti-polarizationdetection.Herewedevelopaplasmonicapproachtowardbroadbandinfraredpolarimetriccrypsis,wherethepolarizedthermalemissionnearthepseudo-Brewsterangleisthemainsignalsourceandnoexistingpolarizingcamouflagetechniquehasbeendiscoveredinnature.Basedonall-metallicsubwavelengthstructures,anelectrodynamicresistance-reductionmechanismisproposedtoavoidthesignificantpolarization-dependentinfraredabsorption/radiation.Itisalsofoundthatthestructuredmetalsurfacepresentsgiantextrinsicanisotropyregardingthephaseshiftbetweenorthogonalpolarizationstates,whichhelpstorealizeultrahigh-efficiencyandtunablepolarizationconversioninanunprecedentedmanner.Finally,wenotethatthecatenaryopticaltheorymayprovideausefulmeanstoexplainandpredicttheseunusualperformances.
