摘要
UN-Habitatisembarkingonanexcitingprogrammetoimplementanoften-overlookedpartofitsmandate-topromotecitytourismaroundtheworld.Theideaisthatvisitorstofamousandnotsofamoustownsandcitiesseehowotherpeoplelive,especiallythepoorestofthepoorsothattheycanbenefitfromtourismasasourceofincomeandenablethemtomeettheirshelterneeds.TheIstanbulDeclarationandHabitatAgendagivesUN-Habitatamandatethattakesinnotjustcitiesandtownsperse,buttheperi-urbanzonesthatskirtthem,andurban-rurallinkagesthatcanbeofconsiderablebenefittocountriesproudtodrawonthedevelopmentpotentialsoftourism.Well-managedtourismcancertainlyhelpstrengthenthepositivelinksbetweenurbanandruralareas.Thisarticlegivessomeexamplesoftraditionalandnewlydevelopedtourism.
