A Numerical Model for Natural Backfill of Pipeline Trenches Subjected to Unidirectional/Oscillatory Flows

摘要 Anumericalmodelfortheself-burialofapipelinetrenchisdeveloped.Morphologicalevolutionsofapipelinetrenchundersteady-currentoroscillatory-flowconditionsaresimulatedwith/withoutapipelineinsidethetrench.Theoscillatoryflowinthisstudyrepresentstheactionofwaves.Thetwo-dimensionalReynolds-averagedcontinuityandNavier-Stokesequationswiththestandardk-εturbulenceclosure,aswellasthesedimenttransportequations,aresolvedwiththefinitedifferencemethodinacurvilinearcoordinatesystem.Bothbedandsuspendedloadsofsedimenttransportareincludedinthemorphologicalmodel.Becauseofthelackofexperimentaldataonthebackfillingofpipelinetrenches,thenumericalmodelisfiretlyverifiedagainstthreeclosely-relevantexperimentsavailableinliterature.Adetailedmeasurementofthechannelmigrationphenomenonundersteadycurrentsisemployedfortheassessmentoftheintegralperformanceofthemodel.ThetwoexperimentalresultsfromU-tubetestsareusedtovalidatethemodel'sabilityinpredictingoscillatoryflows.Differenttime-marchingschemesareemployedforthemorphologicalcomputationunderunidirectionalandoscillatoryconditions.Itisfoundthatvortexmotionswithinthetrenchplayanimportantroleinthetrenchdevelopment.
