简介:Agroupofpoly(phthalazinoneethersulfoneketone)/potassium-titanate-whisker(PPSEK/whisker)compositeswaspreparedbycoprecipitationfromsolution.Thewhiskersurfacewasmodifiedusingtitanatecouplingagentpriortoblending.Thetensile,impact,morphologyandthermalpropertiesofthemouldedcompositeswereinvestigated.Themeasurementsshowedthatthetensilestrengthandimpactstrengthofthecompositesincreasedwithincreasingwhiskerscontentupto10to20phr,thereaftertheyshowedadecreaseinthewhiskerscontentreached40phr.Atthesametime,themodulusofthecompositesincreasedwithincreasingwhiskerscontent.Scanningelectronmicroscopystudiesrevealedthatthewhiskerswithinthecompositesweredisperseduniformlybytreatedwithcouplingagent.Finally,thermogravimetricanalysisshowedthattheheatresistanceofthecompositestendedtoincreasewithincreasingwhiskercontent.Theresultswereanalysedanddiscussedintermsofestablishedmodelsofthebehaviourofshort-fiberreinforcedcomposites.
