简介:TyphoonDurian(2001),whichformedovertheSouthChinaSea(SCS),wassimulatedbyusingtheWeatherResearchandForecasting(WRF)model.ThegenesisoftyphoonDurianwhichformedinthemonsoontroughwasreproducedbynumericalsimulations.Thesimulatedresultsagreereasonablywellwithobservations.Twonumericalexperimentsinwhichtheseasurfacetemperature(SST)waseitherdecreasedorincreasedwereperformedtoinvestigatetheimpactoftheSSTonthegenesisofthety-phoon.WhentheSSTwasdecreasedby5℃uniformlyforallgridsinthemodel,thewindscalculatedbecamedivergentinthelowertroposphereandconvergentintheuppertroposphere,creatingconditionsinwhichtheamountoftotallatentheatrelease(TLHR)waslowandthetropicalcyclone(TC)couldnotbeformed.Thissimulationshowstheimportanceoftheconvergenceinthelowertropo-sphereandthedivergenceintheuppertroposphereforthegenesisoftheinitialvortex.WhentheSSTwasincreasedby1℃uni-formlyforallgrids,astrongertyphoonwasgeneratedintheresultswithanincreaseofabout10ms-1inthemaximumsurfacewindspeed.Onlyminordifferencesinintensitywerenotedduringthefirst54hinthesimulationwiththewarmerSST,butapparentdif-ferencesinintensityoccurredafter54hwhenthevortexbegantostrengthentotyphoonstrength.ThisexperimentshowsthatwarmerSSTwillspeedthestrengtheningfromtropicalstormstrengthtotyphoonstrengthandincreasethemaximumintensityreached,whileonlyminorimpactcanbeseenduringtheearlierstageofgenesisbeforetheTCreachesthetropicalstormstrength.Theresultssug-gestthattheamountofTLHRmaybethedominantfactorindeterminingtheformationandtheintensificationoftheTC.
