简介:Plasmonicwaveguides,asacompetitivecandidate,havebeenwidelystudiedinrapiddevelopingphotonicintegratedcircuits(PICs)andopticalinterconnectionfields.However,crosstalkbetweenplasmonicwaveguidesisacriticalissuethathastobeconsideredinpractice.Actually,crosstalkdominatestheultimateintegrationdensityoftheplanarphotoniccircuits.Thispaperreviewstherecentresearchworkonevaluationmethodsandcrosstalksuppressionapproachesofplasmonicwaveguides.Threecrosstalkevaluationmethodsbasedoncomparisonofspecificparametersofwaveguideshavebeensummarized.Furthermore,fourspecificapproachestoreducecrosstalkhavebeenillustratedastwocategoriesaccordingtotheirimpactsonwaveguideperformancesandthewholecircuit.Onemeansofcrosstalksuppressionischangingtheplacementofwaveguides,whichcouldmaintainthetransmissioncharacteristicsoftheoriginalwaveguide.Theothermeansisinsertingmedium,whichhastheadvantageofoccupyingsmallerspacecomparedtothefirstmethod.Consequently,tosuppresscrosstalkbetweenplasmonicwaveguides,oneshouldchoosesuitableapproach.

简介:Openwaveguidesarewidelyusedinmodernphotonicdevices,suchasmicrostructuredfiberfiltersandsensors.Theirabsorptionandtransmissionspectraarethemostimportantpropertiesindeterminingtheoverallperformanceofthephotonicdevices.Theimaginarypartsoftheireigenvalueshavebeencommonlyusedtocalculatetheabsorptionandconsequentlythetransmissionspectra.Hereweshowthatthisformulismisgenerallyincorrectandnotconsistentwiththesimulationresultsobtainedbythebeampropagationmethod.Werevisitthefundamentaltheoryfortheabsorptionofopenwaveguidesandpresentageneralformulism.Wefoundthatparity-time-symmetrytransitions,whichhavebeenconventionallyignored,playacriticalroleinthepropertiesofthecoupledwaveguide.Theabsorptionandtransmissionarehighlydependentonthephysicallengthofthesystem.Onthebasisofourfindings,optimizationcriteriafordesigningphotonicsensorsandfiltersarepresented.
简介:Therearesomecurvedinterfacesinoceanacousticwaveguides.Tocomputewavepropagationalongtherangewithsomemarchingmethods,aflatteningoftheinternalinterfacesandatransformingequationareneeded.Inthispaperalocalor-thogonalcoordinatetransformandanequationtransformationareconstructedtoflatteninterfacesandchangetheHelmholtzequationasasolvableform.Forawaveguidewithaflattop,aflatbottomandncurvedinterfaces,thecoefficientsofthetrans-formedHelmholtzequationaregiveninaclosedformulationwhichcanbethoughtofasanextensionoftheformalworkrelatedtotheequationtransformationwithtwocurvedinternalinterfaces.Inthetransformedhorizontallystratifiedwaveguide,theone-wayreformulationbasedontheDirichlet-to-Neumann(DtN)mapisthenusedtoreducetheboundaryvalueproblemtoaninitialvalueproblem.NumericalimplementationoftheresultingoperatorRiccatiequationusesalargerangestepmethodtodiscretizetherangevariableandatruncatedlocaleigenfunctionexpansiontoapproximatetheoperators.Thismethodisparticularlyusefulforsolvinglongrangewavepropagationproblemsinslowlyvaryingwaveguides.Furthermore,themethodcanalsobeappliedtowavepropagationproblemsinacousticwaveguidesassociatedwithvarieddensity.

简介:Thedesignofanovelphotoniccrystalwaveguidepowersplitterispresented.Theproposedpowersplitterhasthreeoutputports,thecouplingamongthreeparallelphotoniccrystalwaveguidescanbeconsideredasamultimodeinterference(MMI),andthepositionsofoutputwaveguidesaredeterminedbythoseoftwofoldimageswhichareformedbytheself-imagingeffectofmultimodeinterference.Thetransmissioncharacteristicsofthesplitterareinvestigatedbyusingthefinite-differencetimedomain(FDTD)andtheplanewaveexpansionmethod.Theoutputopticalpowerineachportcanbecontrolledbyadjustingtheradiusofthedielectricrodsinthecouplingregion,andthecouplingeffectamongoutputportsisdecreasedbyusingtheT-shapedoutputport.Theresultsindicatethat1×1,1×2and1×3typepowersplitterscanberealizedwhenthenormalizedradiusofdielectricrodsinthecouplingregionis0.130,0.180,0.152or0.221,respectively.
简介:OpticalsimulationsofGaAs/AlGaAsthin-filmwaveguideswereperformedforinvestigatingthedependenceofthemodalbehavioronwaveguidegeometryandtheresultinganalyticalsensitivity.Simulationswereperformedfortwodistinctmid-infraredwavelengths,therebydemonstratingthenecessityofindividuallydesignedwaveguidestructuresforeachspectralregimeofinterest.Hence,themodalbehavior,sensitivity,andintensityoftheevanescentfieldwereinvestigatedviamodelingstudiesat1600and1000cm-1,therebyconfirmingtheutilityofsuchsimulationsfordesigningmid-infraredsensorsbasedonthin-filmwaveguidetechnology.
