  • 简介:Acoupledimmersedboundary-latticeBoltzmannmethod(IB-LBM)isintroducedtosolvebiomimeticproblems.ComparedtotheconventionalIB-LBM,thestrictsatisfactionofno-slipboundaryconditionisimplementedinthecurrentmethod.Consequently,thephenomenonofflowpenetrationthatisfrequentlyobservedintheconventionalIB-LBMisfullyprevented,andsubsequentlytheforceontheboundarycanbecalculatedmoreaccurately.Thisfeatureisofimportanceforthesimulationofbiomimeticproblems.Moreover,byapplyingtherelationshipbetweenthevelocitycorrectionandforcingterm,theboundaryforcecanbecalculatedeasily.Severalbiomimeticproblemsarethensimulated.Basedonthegoodagreementbetweenthecurrentresultsandthoseintheliterature,itmaybeconcludedthatthepresentIB-LBMhasthecapabilitytohandlevariousbiomimeticproblems.

  • 简介:Alargeeddysimulation(LES)oftheflowsaroundanunderwatervehiclemodelatintermediateReynoldsnumbersisperformed.TheunderwatervehiclemodelistakenastheDARPASUBOFFwithfullappendages,wheretheReynoldsnumberbasedonthehulllengthis1.0×105.Animmersedboundarymethodbasedonthemoving-least-squaresreconstructionisusedtohandlethecomplexgeometricboundaries.Theadaptivemeshrefinementisutilizedtoresolvetheflowsnearthehull.Theparallelscalabilitiesoftheflowsolveraretestedonmesheswiththenumberofcellsvaryingfrom50millionto3.2billion.Theparallelsolverreachesnearlylinearscalabilityfortheflowsaroundtheunderwatervehiclemodel.Thepresentsimulationcapturestheessentialfeaturesofthevortexstructuresnearthehullandinthewake.Bothofthetime-averagedpressurecoefficientsandstreamwisevelocityprofilesobtainedfromtheLESareconsistentwiththecharacteristicsoftheflowspassanappendedaxisymmetricbody.Thecodeefficiencyanditscorrectpredictionsonflowfeaturesallowustoperformthefull-scalesimulationsontensofthousandsofcoreswithbillionsofgridpointsforhigher-Reynolds-numberflowsaroundtheunderwatervehicles.

  • 简介:Inthispaper,aclassofnewimmersedinterfacefiniteelementmethods(IIFEM)isdevelopedtosolveelasticityinterfaceproblemswithhomogeneousandnon-homogeneousjumpconditionsintwodimensions.Simplenon-body-fittedmeshesareused.Forhomogeneousjumpconditions,bothnon-conformingandconformingbasisfunctionsareconstructedinsuchawaythattheysatisfythenaturaljumpconditions.Fornon-homogeneousjumpconditions,apairoffunctionsthatsatisfythesamenon-homogeneousjumpconditionsareconstructedusingalevel-setrepresentationoftheinterface.Withsuchapairoffunctions,thediscontinuitiesacrosstheinterfaceinthesolutionandfluxareremoved;andanequivalentelasticityinterfaceproblemwithhomogeneousjumpconditionsisformulated.Numericalexamplesarepresentedtodemonstratethatsuchmethodshavesecondorderconvergence.

  • 简介:Dynamicfluid-solidinteractionsarewidelyfoundinchemicalengineering,suchasinparticle-ladenflows,whichusuallycontaincomplexmovingboundaries.Theimmersedboundarymethod(IBM)isaconvenientapproachtohandlefluid-solidinteractionswithcomplexgeometries.Inthiswork,Uhlmann’sdirect-forcingIBMisimprovedandimplementedonasupercomputerwithCPU-GPUhybridarchitecture.Thedirect-forcingIBMismodifiedasfollows:thePoisson’sequationforpressureissolvedbeforeevaluationofthebodyforce,andtheforceisonlydistributedtotheCartesiangridsinsidetheimmersedboundary.Amultidirectforcingschemeisusedtoevaluatethebodyforce.Thesemodificationsresultinadivergence-freeflowfieldinthefluiddomainandtheno-slipboundaryconditionattheimmersedboundarysimultaneously.Thismethodisimplementedinanexplicitfinite-differencefractional-stepscheme,andvalidatedby2Dsimulationsoflid-drivencavityflow,Couetteflowbetweentwoconcentriccylindersandflowoveracircularcylinder.Finally,themethodisusedtosimulatethesedimentationoftwocircularparticlesinachannel.Theresultsagreeverywellwithpreviousexperimentalandnumericaldata,andaremoreaccuratethantheconventionaldirect-forcingmethod,especiallyinthevicinityofamovingboundary.

  • 简介:Toinvestigatethesizeeffectonthecharacteristicsofboilingheattransfer,boilingbehaviorofFC-72inheatedverticalminiaturecirculartubesimmersedinaliquidpoolwasexperimentallystudied.TwoAISI304stainlesssteeltubeswithinnerdiametersof1.10mmand1.55mmcorrespondingly,wereheatedbyswirledNi-CrwireheatersandsealedinLuciteblocksbysiliconadhesive.Boththetopandthebottomendsofthecirculartestsectionswereopentotheliquidpool.Theboilingcurvesandheattransfercoefficientswereobtainedexperimentally.Theboilingbehaviorsattheoutletsoftheminiaturetubeswerealsovisualizedwithadigitalvideocamera.Experimentalresultsshowthatthetubegeometryhasasignificanteffectontheboilingcharacteristics.Vaporblockingattheoutletofthesmallercirculartubewithadiameterof1.10mmcausedsevereboilinghysteresisphenomena.TheCHFdecreasedwithreducingintubesize.

  • 简介:Wedescribeafewmathematicaltoolswhichallowtoinvestigatewhetherair-waterinterfacesexist(underprescribedconditions)andaremechanicallystableandtemporallypersistent.Intermsofphysics,air-waterinterfacesaregovernedbytheYoung-Laplaceequation.Mathematicallytheyaresurfacesofconstantmeancurvaturewhichrepresentsolutionsofanonlinearellipticpartialdifferentialequation.Althoughexplicitsolutionsofthisequationcanbeobtainedonlyinveryspecialcases,itis-undermoderatelyspecialcircumstances-possibletoestablishtheexistenceofasolutionwithoutactuallysolvingthedifferentialequation.Wealsoderivecriteriaformechanicalstabilityandtemporalpersistenceofanairlayer.Furthermorewecalculatethelifetimeofanon-persistentairlayer.Finally,weapplythesetoolstotwoexampleswhichexhibitthesymmetriesof2Dlattices.TheseexamplescanbeviewedasabstractionsofthebiologicalmodelrepresentedbytheaquaticfernSalvinia.

  • 简介:Anon-linecontrolmethodofsurfacequalityforcontinuoushot-dipgalvanizedsteelstripaftercoolingispresented,whichcombinesanalyticaldynamicstheoryofathinplatewiththefiniteelementmethod.Theinherentcharacteristicsofthenon-immersedandpartiallyimmersedstripinliquidzincwerecalculatedonthebasisoftheoreticalanalysisandnumericalsimulation,respectively.Multi-parameterfittingofthedeviationbetweenresultsusingdifferentmethodswasperformed.Tooptimizethestripexcitationfrequencyawayfromtheresonanceregion,on-linevibrationcontrolofthestripneartheairknifeunderfullproductconditionswasachievedbychangingthefieldproductionparametersbasedonthefieldtestresults.Theresultsindicatethatalthoughtheaxialvelocityhaslittleeffectontheinherentcharacteristicsofthestripcomparedwithothermanufacturingparameterssuchasthesteelspecificationsandtension,itinducesexternalexcitations,includingmovingtheaerodynamicloadandbearingvibration.Tosomedegree,thevibrationneartheairknifecanbereducedbystrengtheningthesupportstiffnessofthecontactrolls.Atotalon-linecontrolprogramofsurfacequalityforcontinuoushot-dipgalvanizedpureZnandgalvannealedsteelsheetinthecoolingsectionisproposed.

  • 简介:ImmersedtunnelisanimportantpartoftheHongKong–Zhuhai–MacaoBridge(HZMB)project.Inimmersedtunnelfloating,translationwhichincludesstraightandtransversemovementsisthemainworkingmode.Todecidethemagnitudeanddirectionofthetowingforceforeachtug,aparticleswarm-basedtranslationcontrolmethodispresentedfornon-powerimmersedtunnelelement.Asortoflinearweightedlogarithmicfunctionisexploitedtoavoidweaksubgoals.Insimulation,theparticleswarm-basedcontrolmethodisevaluatedandcomparedwithtraditionalempiricalmethodinthecaseoftheHZMBproject.Simulationresultsshowthatthepresentedmethoddeliversperformanceimprovementintermsoftheenhancedsurplustowingforce.

  • 简介:Inthispaper,weinvestigateflowswithmovingcontactlinesoncurvedsolidwallsonadual-resolutiongridusingadiffuse-interfaceimmersed-boundary(DIIB)method.Thedual-resolutiongrid,onwhichtheflowsaresolvedonacoarsemeshwhiletheinterfaceisresolvedonafinemesh,wasshowntosignificantlyimprovethecomputationalefficiencywhensimulatingmultiphaseflows.Ontheotherhand,theDIIBmethodisabletoresolvedynamicwettingoncurvedsubstratesonaCartesiangrid,butitusuallyrequiresameshofhighresolutioninthevicinityofamovingcontactlinetoresolvethelocalflow.Inthepresentstudy,wecoupletheDIIBmethodwiththedual-resolutiongrid,toimprovetheinterfaceresolutionforflowswithmovingcontactlinesoncurvedsolidwallsatanaffordablecost.Thedynamicbehaviorofmovingcontactlinesisvalidatedbystudyingdropspreading,andthenumericalresultssuggestthattheeffectivesliplengthλ_ncanbeapproximatedby1.9Cn,whereCnisadimensionlessmeasureofthethicknessofthediffuseinterface.Wealsoapplythemethodtodropimpactontoaconvexsubstrate,andtheresultsonthedual-resolutiongridareingoodagreementwiththoseonasingle-resolutiongrid.ItshowsthattheaxisymmetricsimulationsusingtheDIIBmethodonthedual-resolutiongridsavesnearly60%ofthecomputationaltimecomparedwiththatonasingle-resolutiongrid.
