  • 简介:Themoisturetransportincrackedcement-basedmaterialswasinvestigatedwithprioritybynumericalsimulation.Thecrackedcement-basismaterialwastreatedastwocomponentssystem,includingthecracksandcementitiousmortar.Themassbalancebetweenthewaterinthecracksandinthecementmortarwasconsidered.Fromthemodelingresults,itwasseenthatthewaterorvaporfilledthecrackimmediatelywhenthecrackedcementitiousmortarwasputintocontactwiththewaterorvapor.Thewater/vaporpenetratesintothemortarfromthecracksurfaces,aswellastheexternalsurfaceexposedintheoutsidecondition.Theexistenceofcracksincreasesthepenetrationofwater/vaporintothecementitiousmortar.Asthebasisforstudyingtheself-healingincrackedconcrete,thesimulationonmoisturetransportprovidedimportantinformationaboutthewaterdistributionandmovementinsidethecrackedconcrete.

  • 简介:Apolyacrylicacid(PAA)/gelatin(Gela)/polyvinylalcohol(PVA)hydrogelwaspreparedbycopolymerization,cooling,andfreezing/thawingmethods.Thistriplenetwork(TN)structurehydrogeldisplayedsuperiormechanicalproperties,lowswellingratioandself-healingproperties,ThesuperiormechanicalpropertiesareattributedtothetriplehelixassociationofGelaandPVAcrystallitesbyreversiblehydrogenbonding.Thecharacterizationresultsindicatedthatthefracturestressandthestrainwere808kPaand370%respectively,whilethecompressionstrengthcouldreach4443kPaandthecompressivemoduluswasupto39MPaunderthedeformationof90%.ThehydrogenbondinginPVAcontributedtomaintainandimprovetheself-healingabilityofhydrogels.Everytypeofhydrogelsexhibitedahigherswellingratiounderalkalineconditions,andtheswellingratiosofPAA,PAA/PVAandPAA/Gelahydrogelswere27.71,12.30and9.09,respectively.ThePAA/Gela/PVATNhydrogelshowedthelowestswellingratio(6.57)amongthesehydrogels.TheseresultsindicatethatthenovelTNhydrogelspossessgoodenvironmentaladaptabilityandhavepotentialapplicationsinthebiomedicalengineeringandsensorfield.

  • 简介:Objective:Toevaluatetheeffectofosteoporosisonfracturehealingthroughobservingthehistomorphologicalchanges,bonemineraldensityofcallusandexpressionanddistributionoftransforminggrowthfactorbeta1(TGF-β1),basicfibroblastgrowthfactor(bFGF)andbonemorphogeneticprotein-2(BMP-2)inovariectomizedrats.Methods:SixtyfemaleSprague-Dawleyrats(aged12weeksandweighing235gonaverage)wererandomlydividedintoanovariectomized(OVX)group(n=30)andasham-operated(SO)group(n=30).OvariectomywasperformedintheOVXratsandsameincisionwasmadeintheSOrats.Threemonthslater,fractureoffemoralshaftwasmadeonalltherats.Thentheywerekilledatdifferenttimepoints.Callusformationwasobservedwithhistologicalandimmunohistochemicalmethods.Results:AreductionincallusandbonemineraldensityinthehealingfemurandadecreaseofosteoblastsexpressingTGF-β1nearthebonetrabeculawereobservedintheOVXrats3-4weeksafterfracture.HistomorphologicalanalysisrevealedahighercontentofsoftcallusintheOVXratsthanthatintheSOrats.ImmunohistochemistryresultsshowedthatnoremarkabledifferenceinexpressionanddistributionofBMP-2andbFGFbetweentheOVXandSOgroupswasfound.Conclusions:Osteoporosisinfluencesthequantityandqualityofcallusduringtheearlyperiodoffracturehealing.TheeffectofosteoporosisonfracturehealinghasnorelationshipwiththeexpressionofBMP-2orbFGF.ThedecreasedexpressionofTGF-β1inosteoblastsmaycauseadecreaseinqualityoffacturehealingafterosteoporosis.
