Damage smoothing effects in a delocalized rate sensitivity model for metals

摘要 Ithasbeenlongtimeestablishedthatapplicationofdamagedelocalizationmethodtosofteningconstitutivemodelsyieldsnumericalresultsthatareindependentofthesizeofthefiniteelement.However,thepredictionofreal-worldlargeandsmallscaleproblemsusingthedelocalizationmethodremainsinitsinfancy.Oneofthedrawbacksencounteredisthatthepredictedloadversusdisplacementcurvesuddenlydrops,asaresultofexcessivesmoothingofthedamage.Thepresentpaperstudiesthisunwantedeffectforadelocalizedplasticity/damagemodelformetallicmaterials.Weusesometheoreticalargumentstoexplainthefailureofthedelocalizedmodelconsidered,followingwhichasimpleremedyisproposedtodealwithit.Futureworksinvolvethenumericalimplementationofthenewversionofthedelocalizedmodelinordertoassessitsabilitytoreproducereal-worldproblems.
