Inthispaper,adiscrete-timeanalysisofthethird-ordercharge-pumpbasedphase-lockedloops(CPLLs)ispresentedinthepresenceofloopdelay.Thez-domainanalysisoftheclosed-looptransferfunctionisderivedandcomparedwiththetraditionals-domainmethod.ThesimulationresultsunderSPECTREshowthat,duetothesamplingnatureofCPLL,thetraditionals-domainanalysisisunabletopredictitsjitterpeakingaccurately,especiallywhentheloopdelayistakenintoconsideration.Theimpactofloopdelayonthestabilityofthethird-orderCPLLsystemisfurtheranalyzedbasedontheproposedway.ThestabilitylimitofthewidebandwidthCPLLwithloopdelayiscalculated.Thecircuitsimulationresultsagreewellwithmathematicalanalysis.
