Recently,theirradiationeffectsinnanomaterialshavebeenahottopicinnanoscience.Althoughirradiationinduceddamageshavebeenstudyingforalongtime,verylimitedresearchhasbeenperformedonthedamagesinducedbyMeV-energyheavyionsingoldnanowires(NWs).Inthiswork,wereportastudyoftheirradiationeffectsonsinglecrystallinegoldNWs,whicharefabricatedelectrochemicallyintheetchediontracktemplates.Theas-preparedgoldNWsontheAu/CusubstratewerecharacterizedbySEMafterdissolvingthepolycarbonate(PC)template,asshowninFig.1(a).GoldNWswithdiametersfrom20to90nmwerefabricatedtostudythesizedependenceofirradiationdamageinducedbytheheavyions.ToguaranteethatthedifferentNWscouldobtainthesameirradiationfluence,theNWswithdifferentdiametersweremixedtogetherandtransferredtotheTEMgrid,asshowninFig.1(b).
