Themainchallengeforcontainerportsistheplanningrequiredforberthingcontainershipswhiledockedinport.Growthofcontainerizationiscreatingproblemsforportsandcontainerterminalsastheyreachtheircapacitylimitsofvariousresourceswhichincreasinglyleadstotrafficandportcongestion.Goodplanningandmanagementofcontainerterminaloperationsreduceswaitingtimeforlinerships.Reducingthewaitingtimeimprovestheterminal’sproductivityanddecreasestheportdifficulties.Twoimportantkeystoreducingwaitingtimewithberthallocationaredeterminingsuitableaccesschanneldepthsandincreasingthenumberofberthswhichinthispaperarestudiedandanalyzedaspracticalsolutions.Simulationbasedanalysisistheonlywaytounderstandhowvariousresourcesinteractwitheachotherandhowtheyareaffectedintheberthingtimeofships.WeusedtheEnterpriseDynamicssoftwaretoproducesimulationmodelsduetothecomplexityandnatureoftheproblems.WefurtherpresentcasestudyforberthallocationsimulationofthebiggestcontainerterminalinIranandtheoptimumaccesschanneldepthandthenumberofberthsareobtainedfromsimulationresults.Theresultsshowasignificantreductioninthewaitingtimeforcontainershipsandcanbeusefulformajorfunctionsinoperationsanddevelopmentofcontainershipterminals.
