  • 简介:Theinfluenceofairgapsontheresponseoftransmissionforatransverse-electricmodeparallel-platewaveguide(TE-PPWG)withasinglecavityanddoublecavitieshasbeenstudiedexperimentally.Astheairgapislargerthantheresonantwavelengthofhighordercavitymodeinthesingledeepgroovedwaveguide,onlythefundamentalcavitymodecanbeexcitedandsingleresonancecanbeobservedinthetransmissionspectrum.Basedonaboveobservations,atunablemultibandterahertz(THz)notchfilterhasbeenproposedandthevariationofairgaphasturnedouttobeaneffectivemethodtoselectthebandnumber.Experimentaldataandsimulatedresultsverifythisbandnumbertunability.Thismechanicalcontrolmechanismforelectromagneticinducedtransparency(EIT)willopenadoortodesignthetunableTHzdevices.

  • 简介:Naturalandventilatedcavitationsgeneratedonasmooth-nosedaxisymmetricbodywerestudiedexperimental-ly.Thecharacteristicsofsmallscaleandlocalizedfluctuationsof'steadycavities'weremeasuredbypressuretransducers.Comparisonsbetweennaturalandventilatedcavitiesatdiffer-entmeasuredpointsforseveralcavitationnumbersweredone.Itwasobservedthatthedominantfluctuationswereconcen-tratedinthefrequencyrangeofOHz-50Hzforallthecavitati-oncases,Similarshapesandmagnitudesofthefrequencyspectraweredetectedforbothnaturalandventilatedcavities.Muchlargerspectralamplitudeinthecavityclosureregionsuggestedasfluctuationssource.Frompartialcavitatingflowtosupercavitatingflow,thedominatfrequencyandthecorre-spondingamplitudedecreasedwithdecrasingcavitationnum-ber,whichmeantthatcavitybecamemoresteadywhiledevel-oping.

  • 简介:Inthispaper,ananalyticmethodisdevelopedtoaddresssteadySH-wavescatteringandperformdynamicanalysisofmultiplecircularcavitiesinhalfspace.ThescatteredwavefunctionusedforscatteringofSH-wavesbymultiplecircularcavities,whichautomaticallysatisfiesthestress-freeconditionatthehorizontalsurface,isconstructedbyapplyingthesymmetryoftheSH-wavescatteringandthemethodofmulti-polarcoordinatessystem.Applyingthisscatteredwavefunctionandmethodofmovingcoordinates,theoriginalproblemcanbetransformedtotheproblemofSH-wavescatteringbymultiplecircularcavitiesinthefullspace.Finally,thesolutionoftheproblemcanbereducedtoaseriesofalgebraicequationsandsolvednumericallybytruncatingtheinfinitealgebraicequationstothefiniteones.Numericalexamplesareprovidedforcasewithtwocavitiestoshowtheeffectofwavenumber,andthedistancesbetweenthecentersofthecavitiesandfromthecenterstothegroundsurfaceonthedynamicstressconcentrationaroundthecavityimpactedbyincidentsteadySH-wave.

  • 简介:Reflectorsareanessentialcomponentforon-chipintegratedphotonics.Here,weproposeanewmethodfordesigningreflectorsontheprevalentthin-film-on-insulatorplatformbyusinggenetic-algorithmoptimization.Insimulation,thedesignedreflectorwithafootprintofonly2.16μm×2.16μmcanachieve~97%reflectivityand1dBbandwidthaswideas220nm.Thestructureiscomposedofrandomlydistributedpixelsandishighlyrobustagainsttheinevitablecornerroundingeffectindevicefabrication.Inexperiment,wefabricatedon-chipFabry–Perot(FP)cavitiesconstructedfromoptimizedreflectors.ThoseFPcavitieshaveintrinsicqualityfactorsof>2000withthehighestvaluebeyond4000inaspectralwidthof200nm.ThereflectivityfittedfromtheFPcavityresonancesis>85%intheentirewavelengthrangeof1440–1640nmandisbeyond95%atsomewavelengths.ThefabricationprocessesareCMOScompatibleandrequireonlyonestepoflithographyandetch.Thedevicescanbeusedasastandardmoduleinintegratedphotoniccircuitryforwideapplicationsinon-chipsemiconductorlaserstructuresandopticalsignalprocessing.

  • 简介:Weexperimentallydemonstratetwokindsofallfew-modefiber(FMF)ringlaserswithhigh-ordermode(HOM)oscillationinthelasercavity.Onekindisaswitchable-wavelengthall-FMFHOMlaserwithanoutputoftunableopticalvortexbeams(OVBs);theotherisaQ-switchedall-FMFHOMlaserwithanoutputofpulsedcylindricalvectorbeams(CVBs).Thelasersarecomposedofall-FMFcomponentsandfew-modeerbium-dopedfiber.ASagnacinterferometermadeofa3dBFMFcouplerfunctionsasthewavelengthselector,andswitchablemultiwavelengthtunableOVBsareexperimentallyrealized.Carbonnanotube-basedsaturableabsorbersandthenonlinearpolarizationrotationtechniqueareusedtoachieveQ-switchedCVBlasers.Thisisthefirstreport,toourknowledge,onthegenerationofswitchable-wavelengthandQ-switchedHOMbeamsinall-FMFlasercavities.

  • 简介:Weproposeandexperimentallydemonstratea2×2thermo-optic(TO)crossbarswitchimplementedbydualphotoniccrystalnanobeam(PCN)cavitieswithinasilicon-on-insulator(SOI)platform.Bythermallytuningtherefractiveindexofsilicon,theresonancewavelengthofthePCNcavitiescanbered-shifted.WiththehelpoftheultrasmallmodevolumesofthePCNcavities,only~0.16mWpowerisneededtochangetheswitchingstate.Withaspectralpassbandof0.09nmatthe1583.75nmoperationwavelength,theinsertionloss(IL)andcrosstalk(CT)performancesweremeasuredasIL(bar)=-0.2dB,CT(bar)=-15dB,IL(cross)=-1.5dB,andCT(cross)=-15dB.Furthermore,thethermaltuningefficiencyofthefabricateddeviceisashighas1.23nm/mW.

  • 简介:Thispaperstudiesthree-dimensionaldiffractionofobliquelyincidentplaneSHwavesbytwininfinitelylongcylindricalcavitiesinlayeredporoelastichalf-spaceusingindirectboundaryelementmethod.Theapproachisvalidatedbycomparisonwiththeliterature,andtheeffectsofcavityinterval,incidentfrequency,andboundarydrainageconditiononthediffractionarestudiedthroughnumericalexamples.Itisshownthat,theinteractionbetweentwocavitiesissignificantandsurfacedisplacementpeaksbecomelargewhentwocavitiesareclose,andthesurfacedisplacementmaybesignificantlyamplifiedbytwincavities,andtheinfluencerangewithlargeamplificationcanbeaswideas40timesofthecavityradius.Surfacedisplacementsindryporoelasticcaseandsaturatedporoelasticcaseswithdrainedandundrainedboundariesareevidentlydifferentundercertaincircumstances,andthedifferencesmaybemuchlargerthanthoseinthefree-fieldresponse.
