TheeffectofrapidsolidificationonstructureandelectrochemicalperformanceoftheLaNi4.5Co0.25Al0.25hydrogenstoragealloywasinvestigatedbyX-raypowderdiffractionandasimulatedbatterytest,includingmaximumcapacity,cyclingstability,self-discharge,andhigh-ratedischargeability(HRD).Allthemelt-spunalloysweresingle-phasewiththeCaCu5-typestructure(spacegroupP6/mmm).Incomparisontotheas-castalloy,therapidlyquenchedalloysmanifestedanimprovedhomogeneityofcompositionandexpandedlatticeparameters.Theelectrochemicalmeasurementsshowedthattheactivationproperty,cyclingstabilityandself-dischargeofthealloyelectrodeswerealsoimprovedfortherapidsolidifiedalloys.TheHRDoftheas-castalloywasbetterthanthoseofalltherapidlysolidifiedalloys.Asthequenchingrateincreased,theHRDandexchangecurrentdensityfirstdecreasedandthenincreased.
